Don’t try this at home. It’s not safe. It’s also not legal in many places. In this particular place, it actually was legal … this is a spot along the AT where the trail crosses railroad tracks, so the only real danger was given some through-hiker more than they were expecting.
Luckily (?) no one else came through while we were there. And incidentally, neither did a train … sorry to spoil that last image.
