{"id":5427,"date":"2019-08-15T23:02:05","date_gmt":"2019-08-16T03:02:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/maiitsohyazhi.com\/ropestudy\/?page_id=5427"},"modified":"2019-08-15T23:16:40","modified_gmt":"2019-08-16T03:16:40","slug":"values","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/maiitsohyazhi.com\/ropestudy\/values\/","title":{"rendered":"Core Values"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We strive to follow the \u201cCore Values\u201d listed below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Scholarship \u2013 Be a dedicated student of your craft<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Deliberate and Persistent Practice: engage in deliberate practice and be a perpetual student (stay in learning mode instead of knowing mode)<\/li><li>Learning in Context: learn as much as you can about the art you\u2019re practicing<\/li><li>Experience: time isn\u2019t everything, but it\u2019s not nothing, either<\/li><li>Progression: don\u2019t rush into things beyond your current skill level<\/li><li>Interaction: understand the difference between practice, performance, and play<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Citizenship \u2013 Be responsible for yourself and your actions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Involvement: be an active, upstanding participant of the rope community, and don\u2019t knowingly or intentionally cause harm to others<\/li><li>Responsibility: take responsibility for your words and actions; recognize and correct mistakes<\/li><li>Informed Consent: know the risks you are taking, don\u2019t take unnecessary risks, and do nothing without the informed, enthusiastic consent of your partner(s)<\/li><li>Partnership: learn to understand your rope partners in rope, take care of your partner, avoid doing harm, care for partners when harm happens<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Stewardship \u2013 Be responsible for the health of your community<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Keeper: don\u2019t tolerate poor behavior around you; at the same time, be careful what you say about others and don\u2019t spread malicious or unverified gossip<\/li><li>Role Model: be mindful of the responsibility you have for those with less experience, whether playing with them or being watched by them<\/li><li>Contributor: encourage the growth of the community; support the venues and vendors<\/li><li>Teacher: share what you\u2019ve learned, but remember that teaching carries special responsibility; teach for betterment, not reputation; don\u2019t teach to the limits of your knowledge or beyond your mastery \u2026 i.e. don\u2019t teach what you just learned, don\u2019t teach what you don\u2019t fully understand, don\u2019t teach skills you haven\u2019t mastered<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Humility \u2013 Be humble in your dealings with others<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Honesty: be honest, with yourself and with others, about your dealings in the community and about your experience and skill level; don\u2019t try to present yourself as having greater experience, knowledge, or skills than you actually have; (beware the Dunning-Kruger effect)<\/li><li>Teachability: be open and receptive to learning from others, regardless of their \u201cstatus\u201d; listen more than you speak<\/li><li>Graciousness: recognize that we all start somewhere, and we all make mistakes; be quick and gracious in offering help to others and slow to pass judgment<\/li><li>Acknowledgement: recognize and acknowledge your educational lineage; give credit where credit is due; support the people on whose backs you are standing<\/li><li>Enjoyment: don\u2019t take yourself, or any of this, too seriously; enjoy your rope, whatever that means to you, and let others enjoy their rope, as well<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We strive to follow the \u201cCore Values\u201d listed below.
